I've suffered from anxiety and intrusive thoughts for 35 years. I've read all the books, listened to all the tapes and have had years of therapy. Most books point to techniques on how to manage anxiety with the same- face your fears , accept your fears and engage in an activity etc.( BTW I'm not minimizing any of those -they've served me well) Sheryl understands the importance of doing the next step, the deep deep dive of healing oneself and explains that we need to turn towards our pain and suffering and not finding subtle ways of turning away from it. She offers using Tonglen the Tibetan practice of taking and giving and other heart centered practices. She speaks from experience of living with her own anxiety and finding the wisdom within it. If you are ready to heal and not just manage anxiety this book is for you.
Imagine what it would have been like when you were a kid and had anxious feelings or scary thoughts, if you went to your parent or other important grown up in your life (if you even had one) and they received you and your feelings and thoughts with warmth, explained that they were normal, taught you how to feel and process them, and didn’t make meaning out of them (like that you’re a bad or deficient person), as many times as you needed.
